Our database provides accurate taxonomic and proteomic insights into local species.
We offer a specialized resource for understanding snake biology and venom composition in the Bangladesh region.
- Accurate species identification for medical and research purposes.
- Comprehensive data on venomous and non-venomous snakes.
- We facilitate the study of snake venom to support the development of effective antivenoms, peptide drugs, and help healthcare providers manage snakebite incidents more efficiently.
By integrating molecular biology with field observations, our lab ensures that every entry in SnakeBD meets the highest standards of scientific rigor and public utility.

Find answers to common questions regarding snake identification, venom research, and how to use our database.
How can I contribute data or images to SnakeBD?
You can contribute by submitting in the website with verified species observations, high-resolution photographs, or research findings. All submissions undergo expert review before being added to the database.
Is the venom data suitable for clinical use?
While our data is based on rigorous proteomic analysis at the MBPSL lab, it is intended for research and educational purposes only. For clinical emergencies, doctors should follow the National Guideline for Management of Snakebite in Bangladesh.
How often are the data updated?
Our database is updated quarterly or whenever significant new molecular data or species sightings are verified by our research team. We aim to reflect the most current findings in Bangladeshi herpetofauna and toxinology.
Can I use SnakeBD images for academic purposes?
Yes, images may be used for non-commercial academic and educational purposes. However, you must properly credit SnakeBD and the original photographer mentioned in the species profile.
What should I do in case of a snakebite?
Keep the victim calm and immobilize the bitten limb with a splint or sling. Do not use tourniquets or traditional 'Ojha' remedies. Immediately transport the patient to the nearest government hospital that stocks antivenom.
If protein/DNA sequences get unselected while going to new page, then what to do?
Just change "20 per page" setting to "50/100/more than the enquiry results".
